NHN announced that it will commence closed beta testing of NaverMe yesterday.

The new service is an open-API aggregator for user’s friend’s updates or posts on me2day, blogs, Naver cafes in one page, as well as consolidating other services that Naver offers including mail, messages, calendar and address book.

Naver’s dominance in search engine market in Korea with 68% market share over Daum’s 22% and Google’s 4% allows NaverMe a substantial head start with a large solid user base that it can capture.

In addition to NaverMe, NHN announced that it will launch NaverTalk, “social communicator” that is to replace functionalities of instant messenger programs and SMS, by the end of the year.

With me2day recently surpassing 2 million user base, along with two new services NaverMe and NaverTalk launching, whether Naver can have the same dominance in the social network market in Korea as it does in web portal & search engine business is yet to be seen.
