One of the more interesting ideas to come across our way at Seoul Space recently is a smartphone application called Raction. The idea is simple. Watch a video advertisement and then you will be eligible for a sweepstakes to win a prize that day.

Everyday at 1 PM, Raction gives away a number of prizes. Today, they are giving away two bottles of Head and Shoulders shampoo to 200 winners. To enter? First, you must qualify by watching a video advertisement. Then, at 1 PM (Raction Time), you open the app, shake your smartphone and see if you have won.

Raction opened for a beta test on April 13 of this year but officially launched on May 16 with a giveaway of 50 Fujifilm digital cameras. One week later, Raction gave away iPad 2’s to ten lucky winners! Raction’s servers could not handle the load that day as everyone opened the app at 1 PM to get their chance at a free iPad 2.

Since then, it seems the prizes have not been able to maintain the same level of quality. Personally, I might be willing to remember that 1 PM is Raction Time if the prize were a digital camera or an iPad 2. Unfortunately, the first time I used the app, the prize was a 10 kg bag of rice and I lost interest immediately.

The concept is interesting enough but Raction will have to find a way to grab better prizes more consistently for long term success. The application is currently available for both iPhone and Android.
