Blood types in Korea are a pretty big deal. Koreans love to talk about their blood type—especially Korean women. Surveys have shown that 4 in 5 Korean women consider a man’s blood type when dating. Many feel this is the quickest way to determine a person’s temperament and compatibility with others. This might be strange to those in the West who might not even know their blood type. Blood type comes into play mainly when looking for a partner. This is because most Koreans feel a person’s blood type indicates one’s personality traits. In 2004 Nonghyup got a lot of press for saying they would only hire those with Type O or B blood. Saying that Type As and AB should not apply since they had no drive.
Knowing a person’s blood type became popular in South Korea in 2004. During the rise of Kpop, many songs talked about the different personality traits of people with a specific blood type. However, the most significant factor was a Korean drama called My Boyfriend is Type B, a romantic comedy released in 2005. The drama was about a type-A woman and a type-B man trying to make it work despite their different blood-type personalities. Since then, Korean women have considered a man’s blood type when looking for a partner. This is not popular among men in Korea. Most men don’t take into account a women’s blood type.
Type O
Type O is the most preferred blood type for women in Korea. Especially if the Korean woman is type A; this is because a man with Type O blood is generally outgoing and has a fun personality. Since type O blood is considered a “Universal Donor,” they are seen as types that can get along with anyone in any situation. The only negative aspect is that they can be stubborn sometimes and want things done perfectly.
Korean women like type Os because they tend to be well-rounded and pretty much good at everything, which makes them natural leaders. They tend to be great talkers, which many use for their careers as salesmen or jobs that require you to be charismatic. Research shows that type O blood types are CEOs’ most preferred blood types. They know how to express their opinions and feelings constructively, which means they are not very argumentative. Since they can control their emotions very well, women in Korea find they know how to bring any situation under control. The risk here is that they could seem arrogant and overconfident but most women can work with that.

Type A
Some women in Korea prefer Blood Type As because they are shy, pleasant, and usually soft-spoken. Most are generally friendly and don’t want to deal with arguments or fights. However, many feel they are too introverted, can’t make up their minds, and are rather timid. Most Korean women do not like Type As, and they have the stereotype of the typical Korean office man. They want to be left alone and work. Most feel uncomfortable when they go out, so don’t consider taking them to a club.
However, the most prominent reason women in Korea don’t like Type As is that they do not know how to express their feelings and emotions. This leads them not to be able to trust so easily. Therefore, this can lead to miscommunication, and the relationship has a hard time progressing. However, once they fully trust you, they are considered the most loyal and least likely to cheat. Getting to that point is the tricky part.

Type B
These are the “bad boys” of the blood types. While many Korean women know that blood type B’s might not suit them, they feel they can turn them around. Type Bs have the reputation of being arrogant, moody, and self-centered. So when a man in Korea says their blood type is B, the first thing that comes to a woman’s mind is playboy or flirt. However, they are entertaining and wild, outgoing personality that attracts women in Korea.
While they don’t have an excellent reputation in Korea, most women secretly like Type Bs because they are so outgoing and can make friends easily; they are usually down for anything, which keeps the relationship fun and exciting. In addition, blood type B’s know how to express themselves and do an excellent job leading the relationship. They speak their minds no matter how the woman might take it.

Type AB
Men with blood type AB are pretty much a wildcard. They love to seek attention and are seen as artistic, eccentric, or just plain strange. Most are individualistic yet very interesting. They can either be geniuses or psychopaths. Their personalities can change very quickly depending on their mood or the situation they are in. A significant negative is that they tend to lack control of their emotions. The man may have an AB blood type if you hear of an abusive relationship. However, they are brilliant, and most have very successful careers, which is a HUGE plus for Korean women. So do women prefer type ABs? It depends on if they are willing to take a gamble.
