K-Pop continues to conquer the world with its catchy melodies, dynamic choreography, and visually stunning productions. One of their biggest markets is China which is why we have seen many female Chinese Kpop stars emerge over the past decade. China is the biggest market and a crucial source of revenue for K-pop entertainment companies. Many female Kpop groups have Chinese members. Groups like (G)I-DLE, Aespa, Cosmic Girls, Dreamcatcher, and more have at least one member from China.
Top 100 Kpop Stars in 2023 – Q1
Female Chinese Kpop stars help their groups gain a large following in China and generate substantial revenues from album sales, concerts, endorsements, and merchandising within a country with over 1.4 billion people. As we have already covered male Chinese Kpop stars, this article will only focus on female Chinese Kpop stars from China, not Hong Kong or Taiwan, as we see those as separate countries. This is why you will not see Tzuyu from Twice on this list.
Yuqi – (G)I-DLE
Yuqi (full name: Song Yuqi) is a Chinese singer and rapper who is a South Korean girl group (G)I-DLE member. She was born on September 23, 1999, in Beijing, China, and was a trainee at CUBE Entertainment before debuting with (G)I-DLE in 2018.
Yuqi is known for her unique vocal tone, powerful rap skills, and charismatic stage presence. She has participated in writing and composing several songs for (G)I-DLE, including their hit songs “Uh-Oh” and “Senorita.”
Ningning – Aespa
Ningning is a member of the South Korean girl group aespa, formed by SM Entertainment in 2020. She was born on October 23, 2002 in Harbin, China, and her birth name is Ning Yizhuo (宁艺卓).
Ningning was first introduced to the public as a member of aespa in October 2020, when the group debuted with their single “Black Mamba.” She is known for her powerful vocals and impressive dance skills and has quickly gained a large following among K-pop fans.
Before joining aespa, Ningning trained as a trainee at SM Entertainment for several years. She is fluent in Korean, Mandarin, and English and has been praised for her ability to connect with fans worldwide.
Yiren – EVERGLOW
Yiren (real name Wang Yiren) is a Chinese singer, rapper, and dancer of the South Korean girl group Everglow. Everglow was formed by the entertainment company Yuehua Entertainment and debuted on March 18, 2019, with the single album “Arrival of Everglow.”
Yiren was born on December 29, 2000, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. Before joining Everglow, she appeared on the Chinese survival reality show “Produce 101” in 2018, finishing in 28th place. She also trained at JYP Entertainment in South Korea before joining Yuehua Entertainment.
In Everglow, Yiren is the lead dancer, rapper, and sub-vocalist. She is known for her sharp dance moves and powerful rap verses in songs such as “Adios” and “Dun Dun.”
Kyulkyung – PRISTIN
Kyulkyung, also known as Zhou Jieqiong, is a former member of the girl group PRISTIN. She was born on December 16, 1998, in Taizhou, Jiangsu, China. Kyulkyung trained under Pledis Entertainment and was a member of the company’s pre-debut group, Pledis Girlz, before debuting with PRISTIN in March 2017.
During her time with PRISTIN, Kyulkyung served as a vocalist and dancer and was known for her stunning visuals and stage presence. She also gained attention for appearing on the Chinese version of the survival reality show “Produce 101,” where she placed third and earned a spot in the girl group IOI.
Unfortunately, PRISTIN disbanded in May 2019, and Kyulkyung returned to China to focus on her solo career. She has since released several solo singles and participated in various variety shows and dramas.
Cheng Xiao – Cosmic Girls
Cheng Xiao is a Chinese singer, dancer, and actress. She is a member of the South Korean-Chinese girl group Cosmic Girls, also known as WJSN. Cheng Xiao was born on July 15, 1998, in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.
She joined Cosmic Girls in 2016. She has since become known for her exceptional dancing skills, particularly in rhythmic gymnastics and aerial silk. Cheng Xiao has also acted in several television dramas, including “Legend of Awakening” and “The Wolf.”
Handong – Dreamcatcher
Handong is a member of the South Korean girl group Dreamcatcher. She was born on March 26, 1996, in Wuhan, China. Handong joined Dreamcatcher in 2017, ahead of the group’s debut. Before joining Dreamcatcher, she was a trainee under the company Happyface Entertainment.
Handong is, Dreamcatcher’s main vocalist, known for her powerful vocals and impressive range. She has participated in the writing and composing of some of Dreamcatcher’s songs, including “Sleep-walking,” “In the Frozen,” and “Red Sun.”
In addition to her musical career, Handong has appeared on various Korean variety shows, including “King of Mask Singer” and “Idol Room.” She is fluent in Chinese, Korean, and English.
Handong took a hiatus from Dreamcatcher in 2020. She wanted to focus on her studies and personal health, but she returned to the group in 2021 and has been actively promoting with them since then.
Meiqi – Cosmic Girls
Meiqi is a member of the South Korean-Chinese girl group Cosmic Girls (also known as WJSN). Cosmic Girls debuted in 2016 and comprised 13 members, four of whom are Chinese members managed by the Chinese agency Yuehua Entertainment. The remaining nine are Korean members managed by the Korean agency Starship Entertainment.
Meiqi was born on October 15, 1998, in Luoyang, Henan, China. She joined Cosmic Girls as a Chinese member in December 2015 and officially debuted with the group on February 25, 2016, with their mini-album “Would You Like?”.
In addition to her activities with Cosmic Girls, Meiqi has also participated in various solo activities, such as hosting and acting. She also competed in the Chinese survival show “Produce 101” in 2018. She became the final winner on the show, debuting in the project group Rocket Girls 101. However, due to contractual issues between Yuehua and her agency, Starship. Therefore, Meiqi could not participate in Rocket Girls’ activities and returned to promote Cosmic Girls.
Aurora – NATURE
Wang Mengyu (Hanja:王梦妤), known by her stage name Aurora is a Chinese dancer and singer under n.CH Entertainment in the group Nature. She is also known for appearing as a Chinese Idol Producer contestant. Aurora was born in Xi’an, China, on Jan 14, 1997.
Victoria Song – f(x)
Victoria Song is a Chinese singer, dancer, actress, and model. She was a member of the South Korean girl group f(x). Victoria was scouted by SM Entertainment in Beijing in 2007 and became a trainee. In 2009, she debuted as an f(x) member, along with Krystal Jung, Luna, Amber Liu, and Sulli. The group quickly gained popularity with their unique sound and style, and Victoria became known for her strong vocals, dance skills, and charisma on stage.
In addition to her activities with f(x), Victoria has also pursued a successful solo career. She released music and appeared in television dramas and films. She has won several awards for her work, including the Best Actress award at the 2017 Shanghai Television Festival for her role in the drama series “Ice Fantasy.”
Victoria left f(x) and SM Entertainment in 2015 to focus on her acting career in China. However, she remains a beloved member of the group’s fandom and is still active in the entertainment industry.
Xuanyi – Cosmic Girls
Xuanyi, also known as Wu Xuanyi, is a Chinese singer, dancer, and actress. She was born on January 26, 1995, in Haikou, Hainan, China. Xuanyi is a former member of the Chinese girl group Rocket Girls 101. That group was formed through the survival show “Produce 101” in 2018.
Before joining Rocket Girls 101, Xuanyi was a member of the South Korean-Chinese girl group Cosmic Girls (also known as WJSN), which debuted in 2016. She was part of the group’s Chinese unit, WJSN CHOCOME. Xuanyi contributed to several of their songs, including “MoMoMo,” “Secret,” and “Dreams Come True.”
In addition to her music career, Xuanyi has appeared in several Chinese dramas, including “Legend of Awakening” and “Begin Again.”
