All Kpop members can dance and sing. That is a given. However, only a few in each group can rap. Most Kpop groups have a least a few dedicated rappers whose job is to develop creative rhymes and introduce them mid-song to change things up. It is almost a formula that the Kpop industry has perfected. But who are the top Kpop male rappers of all time?
Top 100 Kpop Stars in 2023 – Q1
The females will have another article dedicated to them, so check that out. It wasn’t easy to narrow the list down to only 10, so if you feel like we missed a Kpop Idol rapper, comment below, and we will take a look.
Suga (Agust D)
Suga, also known as Agust D, is one of the rappers of the world-renowned Kpop group BTS. He is our choice as the best male Kpop rapper of all time. He has been rapping since he was 13 and debuted with BTS in 2013. His stage name comes from the Shooting Guard a position he plays when he plays basketball. He is known for his deep and soothing voice, which contrasts with his off-stage personality. However, this rap style can be very aggressive at times.
A versatile rapper like Suga only comes around once in a generation. Many feel he is one of the fastest rappers in Kpop, and his presence and performance on stage have improved every year he has been with BTS. You won’t hear a better flow than Suga.
G-Dragon
G-Dragon is the leader and main rapper of BIGBANG, another world-renowned Kpop group. He has been rapping since he was 12 and debuted with BIGBANG in 2006. He is known for his unique style and flows, as well as his skills in producing and songwriting. Many might feel his rapping is overhyped but his strength lies in his lyricism. He is one of the best songwriters on this list and has been doing it for so long that it might be a shock he wasn’t #1. He is by far the most iconic Kpop rapper of all time.
Zico
Zico is the leader and main rapper of Block B. He debuted in 2011 and has since released two solo albums. He is known for his tough and edgy rap style, as well as for being a skilled producer and songwriter. His skills were developed during his years in the underground hip-hop scene just like Suga and RM. Since then, he has created his own rapper identity and has his style and gimmick. Zico is not considered an idol rapper strictly as he can stand his own in both industries.
Rap Monster
Rap Monster is the main rapper of BTS. He debuted in 2013 and has since released two solo albums. He is known for his thoughtful and introspective lyrics and his powerful rapping skills. All this was developed at a very young age (9) and during his time as an underground rapper before joining BTS.
RM might be the best technical rapper on this list. He always strives for smoothness and naturality. He is constantly perfecting his craft, and while not as naturally talented as Suga, his work ethic can’t be matched. His deep voice is a bonus as well.
T.O.P.
T.O.P. is the main rapper of BIGBANG, one of the most successful Kpop groups of all time. He is also one of the most famous Kpop male rappers of all time. He debuted in 2006 and has since released three solo albums. T.O.P. is known for his unique rap style, as well as his skills in producing and songwriting. His deep voice is on par with RM and one of Korea’s most recognizable rap voices. He went viral this year by posting #TOPISBACK on Instagram, which means Big Bang is back…minus Seungri.
Bobby
Bobby is the main rapper of iKON, a Kpop group that debuted in 2015. He is known for his laid-back and relaxed rap style, as well as his skills in songwriting. He won SMTM when he was just 18 years old and broke the stereotype of all idol rappers. Bobby not only has versatility but also flow. He is one of the few Kpop Idol rappers who is fluent in English which makes his raps so globally appealing. He never got the full support and push from YG, which is a shame because he has the skills to be a solo Kpop star.
Mino
Mino is the main rapper of WINNER, a Kpop group that debuted in 2014. He is known for his tough and edgy rap style, as well as his skills in producing and songwriting. His lyrics are very clever, as he uses wordplay and versatility in everything he writes. He went on the SMTM semifinal with his lyrics which focused a lot on his struggle and vulnerability. He even went on Infinite Challenge and wrote lyrics about corruption in politics. From politics to sexuality, Mino does not hold back in his raps.
Chanyeol
Chanyeol is the main rapper of EXO, one of the biggest Kpop groups in the world. He debuted in 2012 and has since released two solo albums. He is known for his deep and soothing rap voice, as well as his skills in producing and songwriting. If an award can go to the most improved Kpop rapper, it must be Chanyeol. Where he is now and where he was when he started are amazing. SM Entertainment was never known for its rappers, so Chanyeol might not have gotten the preferred training from the start. Since EXO’s strength lies in their vocals, Chanyeol’s skills were not as focused.
Now he is one of the top all-around rappers out there.
J-Hope
All three of the rap line for BTS makes our list of the top Kpop Male Rappers. J-Hope is the main rapper of BTS. He debuted in 2013 and has since released one solo album. He is known for his upbeat rap style, as well as his skills in producing and songwriting. J-Hope originally wanted to be in the vocal line, which shows in his rap style, which has a more vocal-based style. It almost seems like he is singing instead of rapping, which brings his uniqueness into play.
JinJin
Coming in at #10 on our list of the top Kpop male rappers is JinJin. He is the main rapper of Astro, a Kpop group that debuted in 2016. He is known for his cute and boyish image and his powerful rap skills. JinJin participated in hip-hop dance battles during his high school days and joined Fantagio, where he showed off his dancing and rapping skills. He went viral when he battled ROCKY in a rap battle, with many feeling JinJin got the upper hand. This is why JinJin makes this list over ROCKY, who missed out at #11.
