Sogang is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit institution of higher education in South Korea. So old that Mother Teresa once visited the campus in 1981. Moreover, Sogang has a reputation in Korea for being very selective. In fact, only the top 1% of high school students with the best academic performance get into the University. As for foreign students, they will need a minimum GPA of 3.0 but will not need to know the Korean language. However, they do offer a Korean Studies Summer Program which is a 5-week program that includes field trips to sites around Korea. Sogang also hosts several festivals throughout the year including “International Student Night” and a Korean Film Festival. The school does not have a medical school which hurts them in the global rankings.
